Could you introduce yourself?
J’ai toujours voulu être
écrivain. J’écris depuis toujours et en vieillissant, j’ai pensé que je pouvais
devenir auteure.
J'ai travaillé quelques
années comme avocate puis ensuite j'ai quitté mon travail afin de rester à la
maison avec mes enfants.
À ce moment-là, j'ai
décidé que j'essayerais d'écrire un roman et verrais ce qui est arriverai. Ce
premier livre n'était pas très bon, donc je l'ai mis de côté et ai commencé
travailler sur THE BOOK OF IVY. J’ai pensé qu’IVY était assez bon pour
être publié, donc j'ai commencé à l’envoyer aux agents et aux maisons
d'édition.
J'ai de la chance de
pouvoir écrire à plein temps, donc je ne dois pas jongler entre l'écriture avec
un autre travail.
From the time I was very
young, I always wanted to be a writer. I used to write stories all the time and
as I got older, I thought a lot about becoming an author. I worked as a lawyer
for a few years and then I quit to stay home with my children. At that time, I
decided I would try to write a novel and see what happened. That first book
wasn’t very good, so I put it aside and started working on THE BOOK OF IVY. I
felt like IVY was good enough to be published, so I started sending it out to
agents and publishing houses. I am lucky that I am able to write full-time, so
I don’t have to juggle writing with another job.

suivez-vous un processus particulier ?
Where do you get your ideas? How do you build your characters? Are you inspired by your friends or family?
By your personal life?
When you begin the writing of a novel, do you follow a particular
process?
Je regrette de ne pas
avoir de réponse plus passionnante pour cette question parce que les gens me
demandent tout le temps où je trouve mes idées et la réponse honnête, c’est que
je ne sais pas vraiment. Souvent, il y a juste l’étincelle minuscule d'une idée
qui me vient et je suis assise avec cela et j’y pense pendant un certain temps
avant de commencer à écrire. Je ne fais pas de plan, donc je sais généralement
comment le livre commencera et comment il finira, mais le milieu est un mystère
complet pour moi. Je ne construis pas les personnages par rapport aux gens que
je connais dans la réalité, bien que je sois sûre que cetains éléments d'amis
et de la famille se faufilent dans mes personnages.
I wish I had a more
exciting answer for this question because people ask me all the time where I
get my ideas and the honest answer is I really don’t know. Usually just a tiny
spark of an idea will come to me and I sit with it and think about it for a
while before I start writing. I don’t outline my novels, so I generally know
how the book will begin and how it will end, but the middle is a complete
mystery to me. I don’t base characters off of people I know in real life,
although I’m sure bits and pieces of friends and family sneak into characters
as I’m writing them.

seraient publiés en France ?
What did you feel when you knew that your books would be published in
France?
J'ai été ravi de
découvrir que les livres d’Ivy seraient publiés en France, et je suis si
heureuse que des lecteurs français semblent les aimer!
I was thrilled when I
found out the IVY books would be published in France and I’m so happy that
French readers seem to be enjoying them!

Avez-vous un nouveau livre en préparation?
Have you a new book in preparation?
J'ai un roman pour
adultes, appelé LES FILLES ROANOKE, qui va sortir aux États-Unis en mars 2017.
C'est une histoire sombre, inquiétante qui sera aussi publiée en France!
I have an adult novel,
called THE ROANOKE GIRLS, that is coming out in the United States in March of
2017. It’s a dark, suspenseful story and will also be published in France!

A la place d’Ivy, auriez-vous choisi votre famille ou
Bishop?
Instead of Ivy, would you have chosen your family or Bishop?
J'aurais certainement
choisi Bishop, et probablement beaucoup plus rapidement qu’Ivy. J'admire la
fidélité d’Ivy et je comprends que sa situation soit fâcheuse et qu’elle doit
être déchirée de devoir choisir entre sa famille et Bishop, mais Bishop est
pour moi un choix évident!
I would have definitely
chosen Bishop and probably a lot faster than Ivy did. I admire Ivy’s loyalty
and I sympathize with her predicament and how torn she feels between her family
and Bishop, but Bishop is the obvious choice to me!

Quel est votre souhait le plus cher?
What is your most important wish?
Je dirais que mon
souhait le plus important (autant qu'écrire) est que les gens continuent à lire
et aimer mes livres et que je continue à aimer écrire autant que je fais actuellement.
I'd say my most
important wish (as far as writing) is that people continue to read and enjoy my
books and that I continue to love writing as much as I do right now.

Si vous deviez avoir un pouvoir magique, quel serait-il?
Pourquoi?
If you could have a magic power, which it would be? Why?
J'aimerai avoir le
pouvoir de téléportation entre les différents endroits. Je déteste les avions,
donc si je pouvais éviter de voler, j’en serai très heureuse.
I would love the power
to teleport between places. I absolutely hate airplanes, so if I could avoid
flying, I would be very happy.

Si vous pouviez rencontrer une célébrité (vivante ou morte),
qui choisiriez-vous? Pourquoi?
If you could meet a celebrity (alive or dead), who you would choose?
Why?
Oh, c'est difficile. Je
choisirai probablement Stephen King parce que j'ai aimé tous ses livres et je
les lis depuis que je suis petite. J'aimerais m'asseoir et arriver à
l'intérieur de son cerveau!
Oh, this is hard. I’d
probably pick Stephen King because I’ve loved all his books and I’ve been
reading them since I was very young. I’d love to sit down and get inside his
brain!

Si vous pouviez recréer le monde de manière absurde et
totalement utopique, combine l’imagineriez-vous?
If you could recreate our world in an absurd and totally utopian way,
how you would imagine it?
Je l'aimerai si l’origine,
la religion, l'orientation sexuelle, etc ne donnaient pas de connotations
négatives aux gens, pour que nous puissions tous vivre en harmonie. Cela ne
devrait pas être un rêve si lointain, mais certaines fois, avec ce qui se passe
dans le monde actuellement, il y a beaucoup à faire.
I would love it if race,
religion, sexual orientation, etc. didn’t register with people in a negative
way so that we could all live in harmony. That shouldn’t seem like such a
distant dream, but some days, with the way the world is now, it feels that way.
